Project area B: Immune Regulation

The peculiar microenvironment of the liver seems to promote immune tolerance under healthy conditions; however, autoimmune diseases of the liver are not uncommon. The projects in project area B investigate how immune tolerance is established by the liver and how tolerance can be broken. The aim of understanding immune regulation in the liver is to develop therapies for autoimmune diseases, improved treatment options for chronically persisting infections and modes of preventing the harmful consequences of chronic liver inflammation, such as cirrhosis and cancer.
